Brownlee states that "Love has toppled kings, inspired poets, sparked wars, soothed beasts, and changed the course of history." The beginning of this article does state the complexity of love. Love involves the pain and sorrow due to losing someone. A chemical known as oxytocin begins at birth within the bond between mother and child. Brownlee mentions that "The study of love tells us that we have a biology that allows us to be good to each other'" but what defines good? Love can not only be good, but stir mixed feelings causing the emotions to cease. The reasons may results to divorces, domestic violence cases, or in extreme circumstances, death. So the term "good" may need to be elaborated a bit.

With oxytocin, the bond between mother and child becomes stronger than ever. The love and care to help soothe your child takes patience and may be beneficial in years to come. This chemical helps mothers think of their child as a gift rather than just a weight load. Mothers become sensitive to others and can identify feelings non-verbally. Prairie voles compared to human beings put their relationships to shame. You will find these creatures constantly with their mate. Being bound together, vasopressin. a hormone that works together with oxytocin, causes males to prefer his mate's presence above others. He protects his family from any who wishes to disturb them.

Endorphins, also known as brain opiates, help kill pain and give off high levels of happiness. Through these endorphins it counts as a major role when bonding occurs. The analogy of the talapoin monkeys express when seprated then reunited, the high levels of these opiates help bring one another together. When lower levels of endorphins are present, one becomes less interested in another. Feelings begin to erupt due to the vagus nerve which indicates a pattern beginning at the brain and ending at the sex organs. One part of the vagus nerve, or the "old", indicates the oxytocin helps stimulate arousal and interest. The "new" vagus nerve helps to keep the body at ease and become aware of expressions and verbal signs from other people.
